I recently promised to show this to you.
So here is how it was the day we moved in. And ack, sorry for the blurry picture quality, I was using my old digital camera.

But as of now, we're fully furnished, painted, and decorated:

Confession: I HAAAATED this paint color when it first went up. I was like, oh, great, it looks minty and awful. But it has really grown on me since and now I absolutely love it. It's Behr's "Marsh Fern."

Ahhhhhh, I love our doors.

It's a really big room.

I still don't know what I'm going to do with these windows. I've had thoughts of stripping the white paint off the frames and staining it dark to match the rest of the wood in the room, but that could end up being a suicide mission, since the wood might be in really crappy shape.

And here's a nook of the room that still needs some work. A) the walls are bare (need art!); B) I disapprove of the mismatched lamp shades; and C) what to put on that ledge, if anything? Our cats walk all over them so I'm afraid to put something that could get knocked down/broken.

And if you need a video tour to help you understand, spatially, how it all looks, here ya go:
I have some questions and would love your input:
1) Should I really try to strip the white paint from our dormer window frames and then stain it dark? Also, we thought about painting the walls of that little nook a different color, but I'm baffled - any ideas? I thought about a neutral taupe or something, but that might just be boring...
2) Regarding the artwork that's leaning against the wall on the ledge: should I actually hang those frames or leave them where they are?
Thanks!
I have seen on some of those "do it yourself" shows where you can make a headboard to hang above your bed. There was something awkward about the bed photo that I couldn't quite put my finger on, and I think that is it.

I could have swore that that paint color was called "recycled glass" when I picked it up from Lowe's.
Oh Christina, you are so right! Recycled Glass is indeed the color, you have a great memory. Woops. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I am leery of putting a headboard since the bed sticks out from the wall some, with there being the ledge there, plus I wonder how it would look with the window directly above it? Hmm, maybe a photoshop mock-up is in order...
That room is big! Love what you've done :).
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome bedroom! I love the french doors and the dormer window! I say go for stripping the window--if the wood looks like it's in bad shape, you can always paint it white again. But at least you'd know. I also don't think I'd paint the nooks a different color. I think with all the angles in the room, a different color might look choppy.
ReplyDeleteHow about putting a long narrow table along the space in front of the windows and putting your bed up against that? Depends on how much light you get there in the a.m. and how far your windows open, but that would make a pretty dramatic view when you enter the room! And you wouldn't need a headboard.
ReplyDeleteOooh I love the room! I LOVE the green color with the dark wood. I'd be afraid to strip your window and find icky wood, but maybe you could strip it down and see. If it's not so great...repaint it! I like the idea of painting the window nook...maybe a different green in the same family? Awesome room!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your room! The paint color is great. I agree with The Brick Cottage - strip it and if you don't like it, repaint it.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of putting the bed by the windows, but I also like how defined the areas of the room are now. Well done! I, for one, am totally jealous!
Ahhh, the french doors... gorgeous! It is a huge room, and I love your nook. Your artwork really adds a personal touch, that I love.
ReplyDeleteI can see how you fell in love with this room - it has so much character! LOVE the french doors. I would say "no" to painting the nook a different color and "yes" to staining the window trim dark. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteyour room looks like such a cozy little hideaway! i would love to be there when it rains. :)
ReplyDeletei like your ledge and think you should just use larger frames like the one you showed on the right. i think it would give more impact to the space (maybe large photos of you and your husband?). stripping the ledge could go either way--it could be beautiful, but it's definitely going to be some work, and you'll have to deal with the chemicals in the bedroom. if you're up for it, try it! you can always paint it back (which WOULD kind of suck after all of that work!).
Beautiful room!
ReplyDeleteI actually like the windows the way they are, and the frames resting on the ledges.
I wouldn't touch the window frame with stain! It's gorgeous- but then, I'm a sucker for white anything.
ReplyDeleteWow you do have a big room! You have done a great job so far. You should strip the paint around the windows. I think it would really make the windows stand out. Thanks for visiting my blog and thanks for the nice comment.
ReplyDeleteI really like the area of the room with the three windows. The windows themselves are so pretty! I also like your paint color. Very soothing!
ReplyDeleteI would not try to strip that window unless you want it to be all you do for months. Plus, stripper and heat guns really create alot of roughness that is super tough to get off if you decide to just repaint. Our french doors would have been better off just repainted instead of stripped, then repainted when we failed. Just my 2c! Of course, you could hire someone to do it, I totally think it would be worth it because those windows are lovely.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful transformation. Love the French doors and those small windows! Great assets!
ReplyDeleteI don't know how I missed this post! I.WANT.YOU.HOME. The wall colors, windows, door frames, accent colors, even the picture wall over your steps is all so perfect. I could def. live in your house.
ReplyDeleteLove the leaded glass windows! I say leave them white, that way they stand out more. Oh and I like the frames leaning. They look more casual, which is good in a bedroom where you to need relax.
ReplyDeleteI love your doors too! We have big double doors to our master and I've been thinking about replacing them with something more interesting like this. They are so interesting and bold!
